Week 1: An overview of conflict
The first week will provide a conceptual introduction to conflict. We will focus on the different types and manifestations of conflict as well as the drivers that influence conflict dynamics.
Week 2: Complexity theory for policymaking
The second week will focus on examining the strategies of parties in conflict through exploring some of the key strategic concepts and their application in an adversarial setting.
Week 3: Evaluating democratic innovations
The final week will focus on conflict resolution and explores methods such as negotiations and mediation among other means.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Develop analytical skills that can be applied in a business, government or the third sector (non-governmental organisations) setting to analyse international conflicts.
- Make informed assessment of dynamics and future of conflict.
- Evaluate strategies for conflict resolutions and mediation applicable in different situations.
Entry requirements
This short course is for mid-career professionals. Standard entry requirements are a 2:1 degree plus 3 years of relevant work experience. Applicants without a 2:1 or higher degree are welcome to apply and typically require 5+ years of relevant work experience.
Assessment
One written assignment, plus participation in webinars and discussion forums.
Our modules offer high levels of interaction with regular points of assessment and feedback. Each four week module is worth five Master's level academic credits and includes three webinars with a King's lecturer and peer group of global professionals.
