Seniors eagerly learning at ICT Camp

The Ministry of Digital Transformation has successfully concluded its first ICT Vacation Camp for 2024. Over 100 senior citizens, aged 55 to 92 participated in the camp held from August 5th to August 9th, 2024, at our 14 ICT Access Centres.

The camp provided senior citizens with training in how to use smartphones and tablets, make video calls, participate in online meetings, and conduct online research. The camp also introduced essential topics such as cybersecurity providing them with tips as to how they could safely and effectively explore the internet.

Marilyn Telesford, a camp attendee expressed her increased confidence in using digital technologies noting that she now requires little guidance from others to do some routine tasks. She also urged other senior citizens to embrace digital empowerment. “I’ve already started encouraging my relatives to visit the Centre and get involved,” she shared.

We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the participants, with 66 participants already registered for WeLearnTT, the Ministry’s Digital Skills Development Programme. These new registrants join a growing community of over 4,150 learners since WeLearnTT’s launch in November 2023.

The Ministry is committed to ensuring that all citizens, regardless of age or skill level, have the opportunity to develop essential digital skills. Our senior citizens are encouraged to register for a WeLearnTT course or visit any of the 14 ICT Access Centres for access to digital technologies like laptops and computers, user support, and all at no cost to the user.

Together, we can ensure that our elders are not left behind in a digitally connected Trinidad and Tobago.
